The Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council invites artists from the island communities of Galiano, Mayne, Pender and Saturna to join in an exhibition and sale an exhibition and sale marking the 25th Anniversary of the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council and celebrating our region’s creative talent.This exhibition welcomes emerging and established artists to showcase one artwork to celebrate the culture and creativity of these captivating islands.
Who can participate
Artists with current 2024 membership in the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council. Memberships are available online at www.artsontheislands.org/join.html.
Participating artists must live full-time or part-time in the Southern Gulf Island communities of Galiano, Mayne, Pender or Saturna and be aged 19 and older.
Eligible art forms include:
One 2-D work: drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, photography, digital paintings, etc.
OR,
One 3-D work: sculpture, ceramics, textiles, etc.
New artwork is encouraged and must have been completed within the last two years. It should not have been submitted to any previous SGIAC exhibitions including Arts on the Islands exhibitions.
All work must be suitable for viewing by all ages. The organizers reserve the right to exclude work that is deemed inappropriate for the setting and audience.
We respect intellectual property laws. Artwork must be original and may not make substantive use of another artist's work without their permission. This includes source imagery/photographs used for reference.
Size limitations due to space constraints:
-2-D and 3-D wall-mounted work – maximum 24”x 18” in any dimension.
-3-D freestanding work – 24 wide x 24 deep x 36 high and must have a weight and configuration that can be carried by two average people.
Artists must be able to deliver their work to the home of the assigned Artist Coordinator on their island between August 17 and 22, 2024. The volunteer coordinator(s) will deliver the artwork to Mayne Island for installation on August 23.
General Information
Artworks can be for sale or not.
There is no fee to participate.
Artworks sold at the exhibition will be subject to a 20% sales commission to help support expenses and administrative fees.
Artists are responsible for shipping/delivery of any sold artwork to purchasers.
Images must be saved as jpg files max 10mb.
